As more and more consumers decide out of traditional telephone services in favor of cellular telephones, the plain trend in the telecommunications business is the development of Fastened to Mobile Convergence, or FMC, to permit cell phones to seamlessly swap from the mobile network to a landline network infrastructure, and again again.
It isn’t clear why the function works solely over Wi-Fi, and never on 3G or 4G networks. Though wi-fi carriers in the United States once prevented VoIP apps from working on their networks— Skype on AT&T being a noteworthy example—that’s not the case. Apps like Skype, Tango, and Fring, as well as Apple’s built-in Facetime app on the iPhone, are all allowed to work over 3G and 4G networks now.
