Across the lower circumference had been eight frogs, every directly beneath a dragon head. When an earthquake occurred, balls were released from a dragon’s mouth, in all probability by an inner pendulum that moved back and forth in response to the route of vibration, and were caught by a frog’s mouth, which produced noise.
