After we consider Christmas and the way it is celebrated, what we often think of are traditional German celebrations of Christmas. Germans introduced us the Christmas tree, Christmas ornaments and wood nutcrackers. It additionally appears that the richness many of us equate with Christmas came from the German traditions.

In 1477, the Provincial Mint of Merano (in modern-day Italy), in what’s now South Tyrol, moved north to Corridor. Initially it was positioned in Ansitz Sparberegg, but, from 1567 the Mint was shifted to Burg Hasegg (Hasegg Castle) in Hall which was initially meant to function a second coining mint. However, attributable to economic and political concerns, the first mint at Ansitz Sparberegg closed down and the mint in Hall grew to become the only mint for making Tyrolean coins.
